Another "First bayonet" thread

I swore to myself when I got more seriously into k98k collecting that I wouldn't get wrapped up in accessories collecting but here I am anyway...
Here's my first bayonet, an Eickhorn cof44 with matching scabbard and a frog.
Is it polished or sharpened?

Also the scabbard stinks like the copper smell you get from holding coins with sweaty hands for a long time. I think rust but would like to know some forum opinions on it. If so, are the scabbards a copper alloy?
Note the carving on the backplate of the handle

This piece has seen some time with Bubba’s bench grinder.

Well, damn. What leads you to believe that? I was a bit fussed about the worn-down areas but that isn't too near the blade edge, and the blade is actually pretty dull with some nicks in it. I can get some better lit pics.

looks like the tip of blade was reshaped same as the blade was sharpened, which is decreasing the value of the piece, even matching. b.r.Andy
Maybe carving on backspine of flashguard, but the flashguard is not proper there WaA253 means pre 1940 production. From this picture hard to say, but when the color of grips are brown so replaced too probably. The grips should be wood in this range or later red plastic.
Blade lenght should be 252-254mm.

When you see an untouched late cof you will understand.

Definitely humped based on the flashguard then, and I believe it is ~5mm shorter than your guide.

This is why you post within the inspection&return period (or before buying if you can get the pics)! Cheers to good info from Andy & waffenmeister.
