Apparently not all were marked, here is my very late Mauser KKW with an unmarked muzzle cover. Cut for a sight hood but apparently one never installed.

Ah! I see it now in your closeup photo, clearly some heat was applied, my bad!
The serial number font looks good and the number and the proof are in the right locations and no evidence of tampering, looks ok to me too.
I think Mauser rifles in the 1930’s are the best there is quality wise. If the bore is really nice and it headspaces properly it’s probably as accurate as you will find. Though mismatched, the bolt...
Is there a cartouche on the left side of the butt stock? DR or DRP?
Hambone’s thoughts about the JPS commercials is the first time these have made sense to me. The stock has the “look” to me of having been on the rifle since it was assembled. Great piece, I...
I don’t attach any additional value to a duffle cut but I do consider them the only real evidence the rifle was brought back by a vet. A tremendous number of K98’s were imported prior to the 1968...
Many thanks! Those clips came with the carbine and having looked for more I find they are not that easily found. It’s a good system though, they work very well.
What a great piece! That barrel wouldn’t worry me a bit. The muzzle cover is amazing, I’d never seen one before, now I know what to look for!
But it appears to have the original muzzle cover which is a big plus!
I too have been looking for a sling for my Kar88, and the pictures are very helpful. It would appear I am unlikely to find an original, but I can do harness making and could easily make one. It...
While visually appealing, my g33/40 ( I know, wrong sighthood!) is a bolt mismatch which has an earlier bolt with the proof on the front and the serial number on the side of the bolt handle. The...
Let me know when you find the final configuration you need, I have a standard model bolt and barrel mismatch I will be getting rid of. Someone installed an Israeli .308 barrel on it (mint bore) but...
I would use the older band that has thicker metal. I’d use a Dremel tool and a grinding wheel. It shouldn’t be hard to grind enough to make it fit.
Good lord! That’s a remarkable rifle! In the next few weeks I may locate a stock I have been saving for another rifle. If so I’ll pass it along. There must be a 66 front band and lug somewhere.
Nice collection, I’m surprised I don’t see these more often.
There’s a good illustration and explanation of this mark on page 182 of Volume One of Karabiner 98k. I looked at my Banner K 1933 DR again and the barrel shank is marked Ch.45, presumably a different...
My assumption re.Ch.40 was from an old thread of Bruce’s based on information from Jon Speed. My Banner K DR has the same mark and the barrel is original.
...
I believe the Ch.40 is a steel supplier code. In my limited experience the numbering on Banner K’s can be a bit funny. I have a DR where the cartouche has the correct serial number but the stock...
Here are the bolt flats, I assume the bottom flat is an acceptance, no idea of the meaning of the front flat.
I agree about the randomness of scarcities, when actively collecting I’ve never had...
Here’s my Kar88, 100% matching with an excellent bore. Considering it’s overall condition I suspect it was a WW1 bring back with no post war modifications. It first saw service with a heavy cavalry...
Exactly what I needed, many thanks!
I know next to nothing about regimental markings. I was thinking the sight ears might be a Bavarian reserve ammunition unit? Seems like that would be likely duty for an out of date rifle in the first...
Many thanks! I assumed it was quiet early as it has a faint z in a circle on the bottom. Do the other parts normally have any marks?
The bolt in my mis-matched G33/40 is correct as shown below, but as I recall, I believe I added the rest of the bolt components which are unmarked except for the number 2 in a square on the firing...
