Notice the date under the buttplate..6-6-44

I have an "ah" block gun with the same mark on the butt; "JP 6 6 44". However, it's written in pencil and there is no "/" between the 6's. Could that be the finish date of the stock?

Yes, I believe the general consensus is it is probably the date it was inspected and deemed good to go....it is an interesting thing to be aware of whatever its meaning...
