In the interest of the free sharing of information, I am happy to post the following photos. This is probably the most detailed photo shoot of a G40k bolt to my knowledge. These photos are compliments of Jon Speed. He doesn't have the gun, but it's pretty cool just having a part of this historical weapon!

Great pics! I love the hole in the bolt knob. If they were looking to lighten it that is much simpler than the 33/40 method.
 
I'm sure they envisioned the hole as a place to hide your diamonds. (Recalling the Gunbroker ad sometime back where the duffle cut was explained that way).
 
I thought holes were supposed to hide other "things" :) :)

That damned kitty again....

Any factory experimental will probably have commercial proofing, as they were not routed through the military proofhouse and were still subject to the German proof law of 1939. I believe military production had seperate rules (ie no date of proofing, etc). Remember, Mauser was the commercial proof house for the region so it wouldn't have been hard to send it to a different area of the factory for commercial proofs.
 
Mike ,Did John ever mention were he got this . Story would be interesting I am sure .
No matter what the story was . And What of the Rifle any idea of this
