Wifes out of town so it's Mauser heaven around my house, nobody to complain about the mess...so, I'm taking the opportunity to take photos. Here's one I've always thought about, the end of production for bnz from the m block to the q block. All of these are bnz4 or bnz44 marked. The m block, o and p blocks all have C stocks on them, the n block has a Steyr made stock, likely rejected earlier and used. This was about the time the stock making machinery was being moved to Gusen (or Molln), so Steyr made stocks are less common in this timeframe (end of 44). The q block has a Kreigsmodell stock made by Steyr, and early one. I think that 45 production started before the q block though, even though that's when bnz45 marked receivers show up. I'll do a pic of bnz45 laminate letter blocks q, r, s and t for giggles.

If there is anything I've promised photos of and haven't put up, remind me and I'll do it. I have all weekend. :happy0180:

Great show of 1944 BNZs,lucky I don"t chase the late ones you have them all.
I like the early ones and am happy with my 1940/660 and 1941 bnz

Here's the bnz45 laminates. There are 2 different stages of gas shield on the rough forged parts, the second photo show the early and late type. The forged unfinished gas shields show up in the r block (my laminate r block has one).

More like, "who doesn't like bnz rifles?" The S and T blocks are fairly common fare, but I don't think most appreciate how hard it can be to find nice examples from the M-R range covering from Steyr transitional through early Kriegs. Very, very nice. I will be turning this thread into a sticky.

great thread..

about time we saw some good mauser Porn. Tell the wife to stay away longer !!!

I haven't had this much fun reciting the alphabet since I was four watching sesame street...

I know mauser had the consistency but, steyr k98s are just so damn cool... Cant get enough ! I figured you had all the letter blocks ? Im kinda disappointed

I've only got M-T blocks. Had and L block but sold it to Pisgah, should have kept it. I've had a K too and some other earlier blocks. I really didn't intend to try to complete the blocks it just happened.

Very cool! Even though late s/t blocks are cool, I find the late 44/ early 45 steyrs very interesting. You mentioned you think KM's start before the Q block, that brings up one random question I just thought of, what is the earliest observed walnut stock from steyr? I've never seen a Q block in walnut only R, has anyone seen an earlier one?

I've got an r block in walnut, never seen anything earlier than that either myself. The one on my r block is very well made, even has a repair near the triggerguard to fix something, done at the time of manufacture. The late ones are worse, even using really light weight walnut.

Interesting pic of the cocking pieces. Is the half-finished one a variation, or did someone just quit half-way through the clean-up? :googlie

Nice pics Mike. All similar, but quite varied.

Ryan, Mike has told me the all rough bolt shroud is a variation. The bnz45 I just bought has one, so at minimum there are 2. Lol.

That rough bolt shroud is one of the greatest to find things .. Just looks so brutally done!

Attached one of a S-block BNZ45, fully matching.

Mmmm, Steyr porn.....

I have an "h" block, but its a mismatch, so probably not pertinent to this thread....

FWIW Flynaked, I do have a matching "R" block, full kriegs solid walnut....seems fairly common in "R" blocks?

Pzjgr, yeah I've seen several R blocks in walnut, just got me thinking if there have been any earlier observed. I restored a Q block last year and put it in walnut, probably not right but it works for me.
