Wow! Look at Rommel's third pic. The MP40 is cool, but the Gew98 Sniper is WAY cool! Not only unusual to see in a WWII context, but with Fallschirmjäger yet?
I wonder if that telephone pole fit into a drop container?

Looks like an early LT K98k and an MP38 to me. Tunisia in early 1943?

Kreta. Fairly well known pic series in FJ collector circles. The FJ took a beating as they were fighting Anzacs and such, many of whom were rural types and roo shooters, not to mention the Cretans. So they needed a scout/sniper capability.

MP (38 or 40 can't tell) with a dust cover......don't think I've ever seen a period pic of one of these.

Tunisa, late '42 or early '43

MP with Dust Cover - Tunsia late 1942 or 1943.jpg

Some German car given to Finland during WW2 for their head of State - From the Finnish SA-Kuva Archives
Note MP40 with early style charging handle with extra magazine pouches

Think it was also the last time they jumped with their weapons save pistols, and maybe the MP's (but I don't recall on those) stored in the drop containers...they got pinned down on the landing zones, and couldn't get to the drop containers and get their long arms and MG's....

Was digging through all my pictures thought I post what few MP40 period pictures I have.

If you find good period pics of the MP.40 post em up.

Pic 4 of 14 in your original post, Craig, such a thing to see everyone set their weapons on the bipod mounted MG at rest...as an infantryman, and M60/M240 gunner we all chuckled at how the boys would lay their rifles against our MG's, because you NEVER laid them on the ground, but stacking rifles was a pain, funny how that tradition is older than I knew!

GO, that’s a great pic, classic. Notice that the NCO on the left has the MP.40 sling. On the right, he has adapted the K98k sling, which was not unusual.

Indeed, I thought it was worth posting as it was published, with the name of the author (Kriegsberichter Geller) and the propaganda comment that gives a sense of foreboding some 78 years after the events.

By the way, you may already know that but the Bundesarchiv has uploaded pics on Wikimedia and organized them by "Kriegsberichter":
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Propagandakompanie

Notice that the NCO on the left has the MP.40 sling. On the right, he has adapted the K98k sling, which was not unusual.

Perhaps a sign that the supply chain has already fallen apart at that time...

Years ago on gunboards I shared a photo I found on a Russian website by pure accident of a group of Russians and one had a suppressed MP40. Really killer pic. I have stuck in my mind the film from Africa where a couple of freshly KIA germans were walked upon by brit infantry and the first guy immediately strips the MP40 off one of them and walks on with his mates.
Though not a pic , but does anyone recall in reading "with british snipers into the reich"....where the author pics up a very well used MP40 after the caen fighting and details it. Good read.

I remember that Gew., they were in front of a T.34/85 I think, very late. Very cool and rare pic.
