Man am I jealous, I'd love to own at least one, but here you have 6 MP44s. Nice FAL also, the handguard looks like a first pattern Lithgow manufacture.

The FAL with the dog?
Started out as a Century with the goofey plastic stock and roundish Brit HG. Was on a fine Imbel rec. though and Australian marked lower. Had the wood from a long ago buy and a good UK barrel from somewhere. Parked then Duracoted. Shoots good, but it's so looong. Takes metric mags.

You need to post info on each MP... not much info in books about finish and markings.

Great work on the receiver sections - those look awesome!
What's the story on the MKB42 - that is great to see.

Thanks for sharing the pics!

That MKb42 is one that was sent to me to reactivate. Barrel was welded to the rec. under the HG and the chamber welded shut. I machined away the barrel to rec. weld, removed the barrel then machined the weld out of the chamber. I was happy to be able to save the original barrel. It was great to get to shoot that rare rifle! I think there is a short video of me shooting on Claus Espeholts site.
Three of the guns on the table are ones I worked on and belong to other guys. The Mkb is one of them.
I made dies and pressed out a number of the rec. repair sections as I needed some,I used some, sold some and still have some left.

Really nice work - I am impressed and pleased you were able to return it to it's old self.
I'll look at Claus' site - the Haenel MKB42 is a great looking gun, I like the critique in the STG book about it's problem sometimes not cycling while shooting up at aircraft.

You clearly do great work - my Haenel '44 is currently being worked on, the rear receiver section is good (about the only part that is, lol), the front mag housing however, looks like it was bashed against a rock, and is causing us some headaches - you cannot actually get a mag all the way in. Finding all the parts has been a challenge, too.

Any more pics and info. would be great - I cannot tell from the pics, did you clean up the bolt or build one from scratch?

Nice work - Pit.

PS. Model - what does HDH mean? I'm not up on all the modern abbreviations.

You building a semi or fixing on a MG?

You might want to think about a steel block machined to the inside dimensions of the magwell to use as a forming tool. That receiver piece in one of the pics was missing the bushings and the holes crushed out of shape some. I ended up making up a rig or 2 and carefully heating with a torch to get them looking as they do in the pic.

That rusty MKb42 bolt is one the 42 owner got from eastern Europe as a model for modifying a 44 bolt to MKb42 configuration that has a surface at the rear to hook the sear as the 42 fires from the open bolt. He found a bolt that we think might be from a real early MP43. It had a bit more area where the notch or hook had to be cut. My wire EDM guy did a scan of the rusty one then cut the other as needed. It worked perfect. He brought it to my shop right after cutting it. We went immediately to the range and that 42 spoke for the first time in over 60 years. What a HOOT!

Pete, I like the way you go about rescuing these great rifles. Excellent work and your shop looks like the original man cave

It makes me want to turn my currently saw cut STG44 bnz receiver into the starting point for a semi-auto build...

That is great about the Mkb42 - I am really impressed - it must have been a thrill to fire it - you read enough about these rifles, without handling them, then you find them, shooting them is a real connection with the past, it is for me anyway - for a few moments, at least.
Great work!

Have you used any of the new made bolts from Recon Ordnance - Jerry told me they needed to be machined to fit, as they had all been made a little large by his machinist -

Armenjs - that is genius - what a cool little tool - we're a ways away from needing one, but when we get there, I will PM you for more details, if you're up for sharing.

Thanks! It was likely a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Re the bolts. I cannot state from direct knowledge as I've never had one of the Recon bolts to examine. I was told though that they are oversize from the very front surface to the locking area at the rear. The reasoning is that some headspace correction could be attained if needed. That's all well and good but only to the point where there is no fore and aft movement of the bolt when it is locked. Beyond that the bolt won't be able to drop down in front of the locking block as it'll be bottoming out on the rear of the barrel before it can lock.
If the depth of the chamber is the issue, using a bolt that locks up tighter can only help to a point, plus some headspace correction can be gotten by shimming the locking block with some carefully fitted pieces of hard shim stock or feeler gauge blade and using an original bolt.
Don't get me wrong. I'm glad Jerry has made available the parts he has. I've just never had a need for an oversize bolt.

I have an aversion to getting rid of much of anything. As a result my areas have a rather crowded look.
I'm hoping the get some positive news re receiver blocks (trunions) becoming available. Might well be pie in the sky, but sure would make projects like your saw cut more doable with less effort or doubt about alignment, strength and headspacing.

Pete, Those look great!
You know I have a weakness for the MP44, I always enjoy seeing them.
Shooting them is even more fun.
