    Default The lowly recoil lug

Rarely talked about, I thought some mention of the RL might be interesting as indica to validate high condition status & period stock treatments.

    In the pic set shown...
    • The "best" RLs (dot 43, 42 1939, byf41) are consistent w/ minty rifles.
    • The byf 45 + byf 44 (l-block) are minty rifles too but the RL shows patination.
    • The c-block byf44 is not minty, and the RL shows staining/ oil accumulation.
    • The byf 42 RL shows a heavy layer... suggesting repeated oil application to the stock to include the RL....

    All the rifles look great.

No byf43? You're driving my OCD wild.

Wink Oh well, I'll admit it - TRICK QUESTION!

    Ok, here's the scoop... It's a Mauser 1942 - G41M. Late production all matching.

So are the 44 byf lugs riveted or welded or what? And on what rifles would that lug be found on also? I'm thinking byf but just to clarify.
