K98k bayonet "radiator" frog

One thought is these are private purchase for walking out dress KS.98, not the Sg.98 service bayonet. I believe them for the service bayonet. The only ones dated are 1941, a period of equipment shortage and rapid arming of troops for Barbarossa. These are maker marked, "C.Riese Berlin SO 16 1941" like issue combat frogs of the period. Note in the pics below a pic of the same maker stamp on a leather combat frog dated 1940.

Without question these rare frogs were made for the S84/98 bayonet. Made of rubberized web material and constructed with stitching only (no rivets). All of the marked examples recorded have been by Riese and dated 1941. Unmarked pieces which appear to have been made by the same manufacturer have also been observed. Although not actually made from rubber hose material these frogs have been dubbed "radiator hose frogs" by some collectors. The firm also used the same material to manufacture enlisted man combat belts and other items. Again, only for a short period in 1941 as the items did not prove to be adequately durable primarily due to weak stitching issues. Thanks for posting ......

Thanks Slash. I meant to put the term "radiator frog" in quotes because it was just rubberized material, not radiator hose. It's a "radiator hose frog" like a Luger is a "black widow".

Anyone pick up or see the rubber frog that sold today on Ebay today? The stitching looked really white and clean but it had the same looking makers mark. It sold with a missed match bayo for $102.50.

Nice rare frogs guys. You just don't see them that often anymore. They are usually deep in collections.

Hello,
some kind of a forerunner of the rubberized frogs.
The 84/98 frog is dated 1938, the 98/05 frog 1937. Both are stamped with A.Fischer Berlin C.2
The front piece (pocket) of the 84/98 frog was made from leather.

Repair. The rivets were not of a normal type seen on such frog repairs by depots and such.

First example of the C. Riese rubberized frog with a issue marking I recall seeing...very nice!
