ax 41 K98

One of my regular gun stores had a K98 marked ax 41 for sale on the web today.

The store owner is no K98 specialist, all he could tell me is that it was reciever marked ax 41 and that it looked like it was matching minus the bolt. It also came with a bayonet.

I asked him to place it on hold for me.

The asking price $450 CAN with bayonet. Seeing that RC's are going for $450-600 CAN the price is probably going to be okay.

I am interested in this rifle as you don't hear about the ax (Eufurt/Erma) rifles as this was their last year of full production.

Are K98's with recievers marked ax rare? scarce? un-commom? or Common?

How about the price for a bolt mis-match?

I have to see the rifle still but it sounds promising.

Anyone know what the proper configuration should be and what I should be looking for?

Thank you

yes, ax is a somewhat less encountered code. if it was a nice undinked with example i could see a bolt mm ax41 going for all of $750.
should have h-pattern upper band, milled lower, most likely red glue wood and a cupped buttplate.

ax-41

Yes, x2 on the hard to find scale. What to look for...All metal parts should have e/280
proofs.. Sometimes when fakers re-number they cant match the waffenproof. All milled parts with "H" band front. It may or may not have a flat buttplate. I looked in the pick-sticky reference and could only find an ax-40 It should look pretty much like that rifle.
A solid rifle with m.m. bolt only in good condition with bayonet is worth 750.00 all day long. It's worth a look. Yes, erma stopped making k98's in 41 to focus on mp40 production only. But, apparently kept making receivers only and shipped them to J.P. Saure. They are e/280 proofed and have the Gothic Mod98 script on the side.

I think ax 41 is a hot code for many, I like them alot. I think a un dinked with ax 41 with a bayo may bring as much as 1000 on GB maybe more in there is a bidding war.

In BotW, Law has the AX41 production figure listed at 93,799.

All parts milled, with most of the time a subcontracted, but allways cupped buttplate.
The correct upper band would be the milled "H" style.

Mauser AX 41 tapped

Hello everyone, ive got a German mauser marked AX 41, and have heard that it is worth a little more than some. I was thinking of putting it in a original stock and finding some parts for it as its currently sitting in a modern plastic stock. BUt i would like to know if it is worth the time/cost of restoring it with the receiver being tapped. Also, it looks like the chunk has been grinded out to fit a bent bolt once upon a time. barrel/chamber, trigger, and mag well screw as well as magazine follower. Thanks for the information in advance, Guess what i really want to know, is does tapping the rifle kill collector value completely?

I picked up a duffle cut bolt m/m a while back. The front portion was missing but I had a perfect donor match and picked up two armorers bands. The rifle looks great and I am happy to have it in the collection. It is a g block gun and the stock is a red glue laminate with a cupped but plate.

most collectors say that drill and tap or a refinish kills collector value, which i personally agree with. but everybody is different and im sure someone out there would like it. its hard to say if its worth it or not without seeing it or knowing how much you have into it.

USC- post up some pics of yours....my ax is one of my favorite rifles I like to see them
