Disassembled. It has been together a long time, but the info under the hood is important.

It looks like the rear sight has a lowest setting of 200m? My 2 VZ24s both bottom out at 300m. Was this rear sight a German modification to the original design?

Nice!

Any firing proof on the bolt ball? I wonder why some of these appear virtually sterile, while others have Slovak firing proofs (or in at least one case German ones) on the barrel/receiver/bolt?

I agree, makes no sense. I've seen serials from both types that overlap, so I don't think it's a change. I was thinking about these sometime back, and wondered if these with the T proof weren't Slovak, but maybe something else. They are very similar to the Slovak marked rifles, and just as rare. Note that the Slovak ones have in the white bolts, these are blued.

Outstanding rifle Hambone, congrats! Thanks for sharing with us.
Best,
Pat

Maybe they are entirely separate serial runs? One run for Slovakia and one run for some other purpose?

Very nice rifle, it was probably sometime a Craig piece? the bolt is stamped on ball? looks like there is something, on buttstock grip is not any stamping? congratulation on this nice VZ.24 rifle.b.r.Andy

Thanks guys. That's the same one Andy. The only inspections on it are those shown. I tend to agree with the general idea that this was a different production run than the Slovak inspected rifles.

Nobody has any info on that rear sight and why a regular VZ stops on 300 but this one is a more realistic 200m setting...like when they started or anything?

I personally dont believe that this statement is correct as T stamp is a most real a slovak proof stamp, same as the earlier 4xxx piece is slovakian proofed. All this rifles are correct Vz24 configuration, which was not destined for Germany.two problematic pieces are 3318 and 3839 wout slovak proof but could be proofed later, similar as on very early G24 production were used many romanian destined recievers.b.r.Andy

Andy, what I posted was that the only inspections/proofs on it are those shown in the pics. I recognize the "T" as an inspection. But other than the WaA80 on the barrel, no other inspections are on it, unlike the ones with the Slovak inspections.

Hello, the slovak stamp in the case visible on rifles could have 2 functions acceptance into slovak army and fireproof.the T stamps is in my opinion a commerzial proof. Certainly the exact string should be compared when started one and other? Using of parts from german production is confirmed by A80 proofs but the german endfireproof was not stamped so the barell was only proofed in production process. As there are not romanian proofs i dont believe its from the production for Romania.b.r.Andy

Regardless

Regardless of what this rifle is... I think these Vz's are very interesting with the variations and trying to figure out what they are. Super condition.

Great looking "minty" rifle! As noted, interesting regarding the rear sight grad. starting at 200M. The only photos showing the rear sights on German used VZ24's and G.24(t)'s in the picture index all seem to start at 300M.

I can't tell why the graduation seems to start with this one at 200m and the others at 300m. If I had to bet money on who would know, it would be Andy. Obviously it was a contract requirement.

Very Nice Condition VZ24 - G.24(t) I have liked these Rifle and had interest in them for some time . The biggest issue for myself is German Sniper Rifles take up all my time just trying to study these . I never had enough time for both . I had a couple great examples over the years , but they now reside in the collections of Hams and Farbs and I believe there in better hands there given my Tunnel Vision . Best Regards

I have information that slovak army adopted the heavier german bullet or simply the production of czechoslovak Vz.23 ammo was stopped in middle war period and replaced with german heavy bullet 8x57IS ammo in Zbrojovka Brno plant Povazska Bystrica, so i assume from tests there used new sighting numbers? best regards,Andy
