my new combat vet byf42 k98

Gerard

Collector /Militaria Dealer
Got this at the SOS with the help of a senior member here. Normally I am the mint/unissued kind of guy, but this combat carried vet is growing on me. Enjoy.

Nice Gerard.

I am the anti-mint - I like the used, but generally not abused rifle collector. Carried, used, dropped once or twice... yeah, that's me...

more photos, love the high polish blue on the receiver.

yes, a small percentage of byf41 and 42's had hi polish receivers for some reason. These were all hand done basicly and it's a matter of who might of been on shift. So to speak. See bob-in-ohio's post on his byf41 in hi polish...

Great rifle Gerard! Pic stickied. I have an earlier war vet byf 42 bb block:

Many years ago when I started collecting K98ks I went for "minty" rifles and upgraded my collection to get them. One day I had them all out and realized that collectively they were boring. Don't get me wrong, condition is great and great condition is stunning, but ALL of them in that shape is just, well, boring to me. Combat carried rifles "talk" to you.
Good score on this rifle and thanks for sharing it.

HB

I like to collect bnz coded K98's I guess because a 660 1940 was my first K98, which, I still have. I try to focus on the different years so that when they are displayed together you can see the progression in manufacturing. That way when I do show my collection, which is not very often, to someone that doesn't know anything about K98s they don't all look the same. It must be the teacher in me. Still looking for a 1941 example and a bcd4 barreled action. Anyhow, it's nice too see that we all have different interests.

Hambone, I'm honored! Great rifle also, very similar. I see what you mean, I love mint, but a period "used" rifle really has a lot of character.

H.B. you'res seems to have a high polished receiver as well...

Nice! I was told that any 42 dated rifle is not common before, but I have seen a lot of byf 42 in the last 6 months.
