Thanks to Gunboards and John for the courtesy.

And a big note of appreciation to Award and Vaughn. Art who started this data base over on GB and Vaughn who supplied the bulk of the data to get the thread built.
Thanks for both gentlemen for getting the ball rolling on this. I, Mike and all the mods thank you.

(Note: Clarified credits to Award and Vaughn)

We are arranging a data share between both boards, so their thread managers can
borrow or update from our data threads and visa versa.

27/1939

I when to a estate sale this morning to see what they listed as a old military bolt action rifle. It turned out to be a 27/1939. It is serial no. 4440/k, it looks to be all matching vet bringback. The only thing I'm not sure about is the stock. It has a heavy cover of some kind of finish and I don't see any number on the outside of the stock. The stock is laminated with a matching numbered flat buttplate. I am not sure what the wood finish is. They got some on the metal and I tried to clean it with acetone. It didn't seem to do much to it. It looks like it hasn't been taken apart for a very long time. The bore cleaned up real nice, I think it was covered with grease. Every metal part I see has either the full serial number or 40 on it. I am sure the stock will match also. The RR is e/280x3, the bolt parts are e/280, as are all the other metal parts and screws. Should this stock be numbered on the outside? I'm not sure if I want to clean it any more.

27/1939

This week the action was removed from the stock on 271939 4440/k. The stock was duffle cut, sanded lightly and had some kind of 40s or 50s era clear coat that had yellowed a lot. You could see how much because they had got a lot of it on the metal. I tried acetone on it and didn't get much of it off. I will probably just leave it. You can see E/H over two e/280s on the right side. I don't see any numbers on the outside of the stock. They might show up if the yellowed finish was removed. However the stock is well marked inside it is marked 4440 BU 3 25 39. The barrel code is RU 104/39 e/280x3. I hope this helps.

27 1940

Just looking through the Erma serial thread and would like to add mine. It's a 27 1940 stock mm, have the original but it's been badly sporterized. Serial 512n, 280x3 on rec. cupped bp. Correct me if wrong but I don't see anything higher than the L block in the list.

S27.G Mauser

Erma Mauser S/27.G serial number 1083 is in excellent condition. This rifle has been rebarreled by Schultz and Larsen for the Danish marksmanship program. The barrel is 28" long in the old configuration in 6.5x55 Swede caliber, and is like new condition. All numbers match except the bolt body and barrel. Upper hand guard is missing. The model number on the left rail is missing but the rail does not appear to have been scrubbed. Does not appeared to have to been used after being rebarreled, no pitting no dents

My Addition To The ERMA Database 1938 S / 27 5527 "a" Code

I hope I understood the lingo..... Thanks for a Great Info Source

(Year 1938 Factory Code S/27 Serial 5527 Suffix a ) ….. ( bc = Ru -- WA Eagle 77 -- 173/37 over 3 x WA Eagles over 77 ) ( rr 3 x (Very Detailed Eagles w/ Swastikas) over 77 ) …. (right side barrel behind top hand guard = 3 x WA Eagles over 77)
(left side barrel WA Eagle 5527 over suffix = a ) (left side receiver WA Eagle 5527 over suffix = a) ( Mod . 98 in Gothic German Script ) (Bottom of Receiver stamped AX on flat area near front TG screw ) (Flat Butt Plate) All Matching # w/ 5527 or “27” …… Note : Mismatch Floorplate Bolt Sleeve Marked “04” this was most likely battle field repair as the Cocking Piece and Safety Lever Match Rifle “27” as I understand Non Working Safeties was a common in theater repair problem and replaced,as patina matches the other parts
Note: Front Sight Base IS NOT grooved for Front Sight Hood this may be due to the early 1938 production date… Missing Cleaning Rod, Muzzle Cap,Sling Note: Fathers BF Pickup in ETO Believe to be in Near Liege Belgium during the Bulge or on the Siegfried Line possibly near Koblenz Germany

My new K98k 1938 Erma

1938 27 code. Non import marked. Matching gun, even stock and hangars except bolt mismatch. 3 eagle stamps with swastikas right hand receiver. 77 stamps on stock and both barrel bands, both sights, cleaning disk and 3 77 stamps on right side barrel under sight. Serial number of rifle is 8757f . Barrel code RU 96/38 with 4 eagle77 stamps. Bolt serial number is 5744h. This rifle does not have a duffle cut or any import marks, so possible early import?

S/27 1937 model. 98 script all matching serial number 4407 straight eagle 280

I bought this rifle.from a guy at work who picked it up from.an estate sale. I use it for hunting. It's all matching 1937 S/27 - serial number 4407. Straight eagles 280. Script- model. 98. With a sporterized stock. But who ever owned it new not to drill or do anything other than change the stock on this gun. I'm trying to learn about these. Guns and I've done some reading here. So I'm missing the stock. Is my gun still worth more than the $200 I paid for it? I seen it's very close in serial number 22lr conversion kit sold years ago for 4k. And I seen a mismatched S/27 sold today on GB for almost 1500.

So to ur list on this thread.

S/27 1937 sn- 4407. NIM. Mauser Sport stock. Matching. E-280 straight wings. Stamped and numbered all the same all through the gun. Maybe I should use my 12 gauge for.deer season this year... lol was.$200 a good price.?

It's a desirable rifle for sure. Not having the stock (and I assume all the metal that goes with it) hurts big time for collectors. Post some photos of it for a better assesment.

While I was a bit too slow to jump on this 39 erma, the gentleman was nice enough to give as many detailed pictures as he could.

27 39 Erma, SN 8870. NIM, mismatch stock/front barrel band/buttplate. Eagle 280 stamps.

Edit : I actually was able to snag the rifle, the first buyer flaked out. Can confirm everything else I typed above. Suspected sporter restoration with everything stock-related being a mismatch. Also missing cleaning rod.
