I guess this is a build or rework in October 1930. Has dust bunnies in the bore and mag well with a German breadbag strap for a sling, all matching.

It is rare, at least in my limited experience with French rifles, to see roundel dates this late on these. Latest marked rework dates are usually 1919 or sometimes very early 1920s, but most reworks have no roundel at all. Very nice.

Nice carbine Craig I believe my M.16 carbine was reworked by MAS in 1939 if I remember have too look at my records too make sure. Personally I love shooting these little carbines too. Good kick on them but the bolts are pretty smooth and the clips load with ease. Actually a pretty small loading system IMO.

Thanks guys. It was cheap and I needed something French WW2 a little earlier than my June 1940 MAS.36. Been looking for one of these for awhile as they show up German used quite a bit. It's a neat little carbine, well designed too, simple, bet it packs a wallop. No indication of German use other than the breadbag strap.

They have a nice little kick too them especially being a short carbine with that 8mm Lebel round. If you need clips for your carbine libertytreecollecters.com had some for $15. Thats where I bought mine from and they function great.

Thanks Warrior. I was looking at his clips. I may get a couple. I look to Liberty Tree whenever I am looking for parts. Good guy.

From Wolfgang (thank you!).

Sorry, no information concerning date or place. :-(
When did the Army introduce helmets with no decals?

Great pic! All are wearing French ammo pouches also. I don't suppose we have any idea where this was taken? I suppose France is most likely.

That's what I suspect Ryan.

Date wise, from the pics there still are decals on the majority of the helmets; they are wearing gaiters; the feldbluse look to be some M.36 early, and some M.41. I'd put the picture as 1942- early 1943, occupation of France.

Craig thought a take a few pictures of the barrel code and serial number of my M.16 carbine. Same situation no import mark and was updated in 1939. If you would like more let me know. If you haven't shot yours yet your missing out they are fantastic little carbines with plenty of punch behind them. For a clip loading design they are very smooth too load and bolt manipulation is also smooth. Plus for their size they are very handy. For the Germans too use them makes sense handy getting in and out of vehicles.

Frenchy

Cool piece.. It is amazing that you don't see many of them around really. I would put this in the Jungle Carbine kick category. Fun to look at but not so fun to shoot ...

Almost forgot one of the most important pictures of my carbine the stock arsenal update stamp. Interesting that I never really noticed the date of the update. November 1939 hard too believe that when this carbine was updated that France would fall just seven months later.

That is the latest roundel date I have seen. Wonder if there are any 1940 dated reworks floating around?

Great looking rifle.
