Bnz. 42 Ws1 Rework

Beswick

Well-known member
Everything matches except the floorplate which has consistent wear with the rest of the rifle. Rifle was re-barreled with what appears to be an early Czech barrel.

Mod edit: pictures fixed

Very cool Beswick! I'm a big fan of repairs and reworks. Looks like a new barrel, floorplate, stock? Pic stickied.

It's possible the stock was replaced, there are no other markings on it besides the exterior serial number and the Ws1 stamp. The handguard is definitely a replacement, as you can see they stamped over another serial number.

Is it just the angle or is that sight hood extra large?

I like the very early marked butt plate screw.

I think your rear band is upside down?

Ya....that "sight hood" .....that was bubba. It's a piece of really cheap (but thick) steel welded to the front sight. Rear band in that picture is upside down, bubba put it that way when he installed his awesome sight hood.

It's grooved

'39 dated barrel that was probably done during the rework. The sight base was more than likely replaced, the 7.9 on the barrel is not in the center like early barrel/receiver matches so the base would have had to be re centered.

ANy WaA or numberes on the base?

If it has exterior numbers on that particular rifle the stock was replaced. They recycled them from cannibalized rifles and also used armorer replacements. This one was recycled IMHO. Cool piece.

Like Hambone, i have a soft spot for attributed reworks (that's what I'll call them)- that is, reworked rifles with legit facility markings such as this, as opposed to reworks that appear legit but are not facility marked.
