Nice, is that a Luftwaffe rework?

Yes, rebarreled at an LZa somewhere. Everything else looks original to the rifle except for the extractor and collar (which has been numbered for some reason).

A very nice Luft rework.

Very nice twh, pic stickied for reference. Always interesting as they were repaired/reworked to the extent necessary. Looks like the original bolt, but it needed an extractor and a new barrel. Everything else looks basically factory original. Many times when we see a new barrel we see a new bolt body (headspacing). This one obviously headspaced out OK.

Replaced bolt LZa2:

Thanks for posting it.

First great find! And a beautiful rifle! Love the finish quality and blue. I have a 243 1939 however not quite that nice.

Question. Looks like a 39 date coded barrel on a 39 rifle? Am I seeing that right? Wondering why the rebarrel so soon? Problem it left the factory with? Damaged by a droid soon after receiving it?

Thanks, Jim

The barrel was made in 1939, or actually the barrel blank lot was from 1939, the barrel could have been installed anytime after that. It does not mean the work was done in 1939. Very likely this was not done until 1941-42, though because so little else was replaced, it would be difficult to date this work. Usually such work includes replaced parts, which sometimes can offer clues. (new stocks, new components, how they are marked, serialed, the Army depots tend to have more clues)

Thanks. That makes sense. This barrel became a spare at a depot maybe? And "later" used to repair said rifle?
