Portugese Contract Kar.98k Serial Study

First post here, but I figured I'd contribute to the thread that helped me decipher this rifle while the auction was still going.

The serial is G18037.
The barrel, receiver, floorplate, follower, trigger guard, action screws, trigger, and rear sight parts all match. The stock and stock hardware do not match the action but do match themselves. The bolt is a mismatch, but the bolt body is only one number off from the stock. All German markings are clear and present. There are no import marks visible, though I suspect it is a GI bringback.

Here is an album of pictures from the seller I got it from.

I am not sure if information is still be collected but if it is, here is what I have. The reciever is byf 41, 7653i and it is all matching. However the stock has a Portuguese crest on the left side. The same serial is on the stock between the hand grip and butt. The serial in the stock channel is different. Unfortunately it was tapped for a scope. If this is the wrong place to post this I am sorry. The barrel is marked 4D888 with a 135 Mauser proof.

I was looking for a decent example for a little bit. I ran into this at the very end of a gun show I was attending. For me it’s perfect. It has the right amount of stank on it. Enjoy the pictures.

Looks like you can add F8124.

Thanks for posting it here Hopdevil. Added it to the db and the serial was helpful. Great rifle, congrats!

I have another M937B to report. Serial: F8013. All matching but cleaning rod. Hansen import marking. Flat buttplate, hooded front sight, 1941 date & Heer marking on stock. Very similar to Hopdevils example. Can get pics up this weekend if needed.

Hello all

If details of these rifles are still being collected, I have M937A serial D9905, receiver dated 1937.

All matching. No import marks. No information on whether issued or used by anyone. Appears to have been in a private collection for an extended period.

Best

From the latest batch of portuguese imports I received F12391. This came from The Mosin Crate. Stock and screws don't match. Bayonet scabbard is unnumbered.

An interesting project I considered is perhaps making a group document of the latest import SN's and which parts don't match since all seem to have mismatch stocks. See if we can possibly build some matching rifles from it. It would take a lot of coordination and I'm sure some people who bought these never even look at forums. However, it's very idealistic.

There were so many mismatched stocks in this batch that thought crossed my mind as well. I guess the reason for the mismatch though would tell us whether or not it was likely to find matches were the stocks mismatched because the originals were damaged Beyond repair and were thrown away as the Portuguese condensed rifles? Or were they just put back together haphazardly at some point? I'm afraid I think it's the former.

Just got D5064 in today if you'd like to add it...seems to be 100% matching and in good shape except for the buttplate...bayo is D2319. Import purchased from Atlantic Firearms.
