While not mint, it is very nice and has much of it's original blue including the fire bluing on the screws. The only detraction is the rear band area where some ham fisted GI tried to remove the VERY stiff spring, which I have still not been able to remove (can't get the front band off!). I do have photos of the inside of the hand guard from the previous owner. What's neat is the hand guard is waA63 stamped on top, same stamp/size it appears as on the wrist of the stock. Sling came with it, early transitional type with more "closed" type holes than the standard tear drop shape. It's WaA101 marked and dated 1935. Blue overall is about 95%+. It was used, but not abused. I am a very happy camper. :biggrin1: Comments welcome.

S/42 1936

Gerard:
Beautiful rifle! Those 1936 dated ones seem especially hard to find.
Good find.

Gerard
If You want a MINT one You can send that one to me and when I find a Mint one I will send You that in replacement . How`s that Sound . Please Advise Nicely Please . Best Regards

Very nice indeed, and hard to improve on that wood....
G., I thought you only liked the late ones?

Well, yes Bob, but this is a work of art. Am still after the byf/svw45 and the bcd45, BUT, have decided to branch out and add to my phosphatitis. Hi-polishitis? When I saw this the stock waffenamts had me from the early eagle. Now I need a 1938 with the standard 3rd reich eagles.

Dave, no, for the scarcity of the code/date, it is within my condition criteria. However, I will never be accused of "overgrading".

Does anyone know about the WaA on the hand guard? Was it standard? Also, on the trigger, is the remnant of fire bluing, which you can also see on the trigger guard screws. Is that standard, I have not seen enough and there are not enough examples in the pics reference to tell. Also, until what date/block was it standard? The answers to these and more questions in Volume 1 (Bruce and Mike)?

I did not think You would , But It was worth a try . On a Serious note that Rifle is Top Notch . Best Regards

Thanks Dave. Bob, I didn't see any in the photo references. Do all the MO hand guards (to '41)have them? I as just referencing the other 1936 Mauser that was posted and it did not have one. The reason I had question about it is I can't find it referenced anywhere and I have VERY limited experience with early k98s.

MO was still popping WaA 655 into the HGs in '41

Bob, thanks for the info on the hand guard WaAs. Mine is very nice, deep and clear, just like the one on the wrist.

Beautiful Gerard.

I like mine manufactured a little later, but that is a 'stunner' for sure. You dont see them that nice very often.
