Nice gun bruce! Thanks for posting pictures! Oddly enough I too also picked up a jhv44 today. Found it on the used rack at a local shop. Its a m block all matching, missing the hood and rod but the unsanded stock was varnished. I get to pick it up on the 2nd

Bruce that is a real beauty, your right it was worth the drive. and this looks like your lucky rifle with 7 and 11 for serial numbers.

    Default Jhv44

Yours and the rifle in the sticky section owned by Ham are super, likely a notch up on condition. These late 98/40s in laminate have always had that 'cool factor' in my book.

The internet makes the collecting world smaller, and at one time these laminate 98/40s were very scarce indeed in my local area and still are.

Bruce, I got this jhv 44 probably in the late 80s when a 98/40 was a 98/40. Traded Lynn Lugar a late Jap. T.94 canvas holster rig for it (worth about $400 at that time).

Gorgeous! I've only known of one 44 98/40 and it was in poor shape. Rusty and missing the bolt...
