Taking a look Mauser 22 trainer tomorrow

Going to look at a pre-war Mauser .22 with serial number 140479. In VG condition with the big Mauser logo on the blonde stock. ES 340B marked receiver he says. Safe buy at $425?
Thanks, Mike

Well I made the purchase and am very pleased. It is in excellent condition, matched numbers and mint bore. Looks like it saw very little use. I can't imagine what it would cost to produce a .22 rifle of this quality today.

excellent find! Not the usual es340b as it has a removable rear sight on grooves like the es350b. I have one and have seen photos or heard of only a few more. You did very, very well.

Do you think that stock finish is original? It does appear to have had been cleaned or lightly sanded. I thought the wood be more darker reddish brown.

Great find, very nice condition, congrats !

Mine have Serial 140245, with K prefix - seems to be a very short range of production, with this enigmatic K Prefix and adjustable front sight... I have seen an another one, with # 140464, and Jon mentionned in his book # 140920 with the k prefix - and we have the 140805 here :

tiger jedi, yes, my rifle is the #140464 rifle, also with the "k" . Has any information surfaced concerning these variations?

IMO the stock has not been touched. It's excellent condition is commensurate with the condition of the metal. See for yourself.

OK. maybe it is the pictures. It just appears to be a real bright finish and some of the edges looked soft. Most stocks I have send have not been that light or shiny.

The wood has the look of tiger-striped Maple to me. If it ever was refinished it, it was nothing recent. It has no smell whatsoever.

That is one really nice looking rifle that is not common. This rifle looks like a home run but I have no idea what these are worth.

ES350B k range

tiger jedi, yes, my rifle is the #140464 rifle, also with the "k" . Has any information surfaced concerning these variations?

Not really - we know that the k range have a few hundred digits, and is only with the 11 mm rail on the barrel - the range is between 140xxx and 141xxx, and I know for sure that they was not only ES340B who was made in this range, but also ES350B, because I have one ;-). My theorie is that this range was the first pre-production before the choice and the launch of the ES350B, but I have no evidence for that...

In the mean time, enjoy # 140546, ES350B k range - notice the hole under the rear sight, same one than on the k ES340B's, not present on the standard 350 rear sights :

very nice. these are a study onto themselves. I would expect all deluxe models like the type shown with sliding rear site to have the better stock with checkering ? But, these I think could be ordered in any configuration. Great examples shown here.

Modern Mauser bolt action's were offered with a variety of different woods. Some of them cost thousands extra for top quality stocks. Seems to be a tradition they nave had for decades. I suspect mine was a custom order and looks exactly as was intended.

correct. that's the base stock. the others have the next grade up. then of course there were better stocks offered.
