My 1939 BSW

It's a odd cookie but I love it just the same. The Gun (excluding the Bolt) seems to be all matching and non import marked which is amazing! Now the bolt is odd job. All the original serial numbers on the bolt parts have been scrubbed at some point and the the matching serial of the gun was put into the bolt handle. I don't know think this was a German job but I haven't been able to find anything quite like it done before. Also another odd note about this gun is that it seems to originally marked for the German Army on the right side of the stock but at some point it made its way into the Kreigsmarine service. If anyone has any thoughts on the gun please feel to inform me.

Does the stock have markings on the keel? I have an RC BSW stock that I think is from 39 and doesn't have any markings but a SN but I can't find any pics of a 39 stock to confirm that as a normality.

Thanks

I'm honestly surprised no comments or opinions were offered on this one when it was originally posted. Even with issues, '39 BSWs in particular are not exactly easy to find!

First time seeing this one, it slipped by me when originally posted. This one has the sn on the keel, other markings appear to be worn off. This is a nice one. Original production run, no suffix bolt m/m. Production run 39's are rare. Most I see are depot or Luft rifles.

Agreed! What do you make of the bolt stem serial numbering? Did Norwegians ever number them in such a way?

Hey Guys,

Good to see this old girl is finally getting some attention. Someone is going to have to tell me what part the keel is and i will happily check it. I've sense picked up a beautiful Ostsee marked bayonet to go with the gun seeing how its Ostsee marked.

Sense posting this I've learned that the bolt might be a French or Belgian job.

Sorry about that, the underside that would be facing down if you were holding the rifle correctly! There is a serial number. down on the butt end. The early ones had additional Waffenampts there under the serial number

Here are a couple of outdoor shots with the bayonet.

If i remember correctly there were some at somepoint but are mostly worn off at this point.

No, Norway only removed the main sn and suffix and replaced it with the new number. All other bolt parts were left alone and matching to themselves.

Also another odd note about this gun is that it seems to originally marked for the German Army on the right side of the stock but at some point it made its way into the Kreigsmarine service. If anyone has any thoughts on the gun please feel to inform me.

It's normal on the stock is an Eagle-H Army service acceptance stamp, all BSW Kriegsmarine rifles have it and the area marking stamped on the left stock disk. Until now I just know Ostsee Station marked BSW rifles and all are from 1939.

A nice rare rifle, congrats to it!

Out of curiosity what do you mean by Ostsee Station? I though the number on the disk referred to the ship it might have been on. Id love to know where this rifle was stationed, as I'm sure everyone would love to know about their rifle.

The Marinestation der Ostsee (Baltic Sea Naval Station) was a command for German naval units operating primarily in the Baltic Sea, it was headquartered at Kiel. The Marinestation der Nordsee was headquartered at Wilhelmhaven. Maybe in the future we will find some hidden documents in an archiv, to get some answers.

I agree with you, everyone would love to know about their rifle. Unfortunately it's not possible, with luck you could find a rifle with code and serial number in a Soldbuch. But rather you will win some millions in lottery.
