Here's a nice Berlin Lubeck for reference study.

This example shows the transition from the earlier "droop winged eagle" acceptances of the stock to the later "stick winged eagles" acceptances of the receiver/final assembly.

Very nice rifle. Congratulations. Is that front sight blade really that far to the right or is the photo just deceiving?

* Sharp eyes.
* Yes, the front sight is pushed to the right. Must be 1/8" between witness strikes.
* As I have not fired this piece and the sight blade is stable, I've left it alone.
Regards,
Bob

I like it BLM always did make some good looking K98k rifles. Ammo box goes well with the pictures too a good background display piece I may add.

Congrats on a very attractive rifle!

I've got its cousin, same letter block, and also fleet marked. It appears that yours went North while mine went East.

- Chris

* Thanks, one and all, for your kind remarks.

* That's a great addition to this post, Chris. Yours was likely made within a week of mine. I've seen very few Ostsee marked K98k's in my time; but, I've got a whole lot more looking to do. Can certainly envision a couple of thousand taken off Berlin's final assembly line in 1939 to defend the ports up in the North/East. Makes this letter block a beacon for Navies as mentioned by CanadianAR.

* Anyone have an idea what the numerals "743" appearing on the bottom forward receiver ring ahead of the stock screw mount and aft of the barrel junction means?? Location can be seen in the pic with the barrel code.

Regards,
Bob

The "743" is a batch/sequence number. On the flat area are manufacture and inspection process stamps.

Greetings,
Stephan

Looks like Stephan cleared this up for us, here's a photo of mine as a comparison. It appears to be marked 410

* Thank you Stephan and Chris. I've run across batch/sequence numbers on Radom pistols. My BLM's "743" looked like it could have been a date (July,'43); so, I wanted to clarify. Stephans response & Chris's comparison clears up any doubt for me.
* One last question: Did e/M marked stocks also come with "N or O" marked dis-assembly washer/disks?? I haven't seen the combination; but, there is certainly a whole lot I haven't seen too. Would appreciate insight from the members.
Good luck & Good Hunting,
Bob

Wow, nice rifle, I likey!

A DFW boy and 98k collector....

Me too, been down here about a year....you'll have to come over for a beer and compare collections!

Sure is a dearth of milsurps of any kind down here, except the DACA show it seems...I am going to have to pick your brain!

Hey pzjgr,
* Belated Hi Howdy and welcome to Big D.
* If you are looking to pick my brain, you've got some slim pickings coming. Besides, Dave D., Mike S., Darrin W., etal have probably cleared the table of any decent ole MilSurps south of the Red River.
* If you've done the DACA show, we likely have already crossed paths. Rarely ever miss one. Next show is weekend after next, I believe, on Sept.24-25th at Market Hall. Look forward seeing you there.
Best Regards,
Bob

Yeah, I was hoping to set up at this one, but will likely just attend...PM me, we can plan on trying to meet up, need to get connected with some local collectors...biggest thing about leaving Buffalo was leaving my shooting and gun show buddy, and my network built up over 25 years....

Lovely BLM.

Oddly, all the Lubeck's I have had (with one exception) have been Luftwaffe. THe one I have (still) that is not was bought as a barrelled action, so COULD have been Luft. originally.

I haven't bought a K98k out of Texas in years...they are all up north in Yankee territory.
