The LK5 marking: A different approach

Strong work, Stephan!
That's really interesting and definitely strengthens the Lehr Kommando/Training Command theory. I assumed that each branch of service had their own, organic Lehr Kommando element, which would seem to make sense and appears to be corroborated by both the photos you provided, and others in public and private collections. Excellent job!

It would also seem that some of the same LK_ rifles and carbines in current collections might have been transferred from Training Commands to units activated for combat duties following the Normandy landings. I suppose some might also have been used to fill in gaps in supply, replacing standard rifles lost in combat operations.

Thanks again for sharing!
Best,
Pat

*EDIT*
Here's a photo I had forgotten about showing KM personnel armed with mostly foreign weapons. It doesn't appear to be a training context, but is interesting for the number of foreign arms in one photo-

Sorry, but I have to disagree.

All known Kriegsmarine Lehrkommandos have a three digit number. I think it is 100 - 700!?
All branches of the German Army had Lehrkommandos.

When you have a close look at the sellers auctions, you will notice that the number after the description has nothing to do with the number of the unit (Lehrkommando) it rather is an internal# from the seller.

Thanks
Wolfgang

Thank you Wolfgang! You are right and now I see it, it's just a internal number from the seller. About one year ago I was thinking about the LK5 markings and I had the thought, it could be Lehrkommando. Yesterday during research for an other project I saw again the LK5 marking on the Kriegsmarine rifle and I remembered the idea with Lehrkommando. I did a quick internet search and then I found these pictures, but it would be to easy.

We still don't have a answer to the mysterious LK markings, but at least we are talking again about it. I will finnish my other project and after that I will continue with the LK markings topic.

Regards,
Stephan

To support Stephan with his forthcoming research, I suggest that we collect data about "LK5" marked rifles.
Since the search function does not support a search for such short terms, it would be very helpful if you could post a link to such rifles shown here in the past.
Thanks
Wolfgang

Here's a tip - when I need to search for a 3 or 2 letter search anywhere, I go to google and use that - for instance, search "LK5 www.k98kforum.com" and it shows more results. Years ago our database crashed under its own weight and some tech guy made it impossible to do 3 letter searches on the forum, even though I have it set. It affects the size of the database if you allow 3 letter searches.

Thanks! Added to the list in #27

Wait a minute, until we have a master-list from the rifles here.
I'm sure there are more out there.
At present I collect all links to LK5 marked rifles in #27

Amberg, just let me know, whatever I can do to make the information readily locatable

Here is my Greek FN 1930 LK5
Here is my svt40 LK5 with better pictures
My other 2 LK5 marked French rifles are on the list already.

Chuck

Thanks! replaced/added to #27.

Are there any LK"?" marked Carcano rifles out there?
Austrian? M95
British? Lee Enfield
Belgian? Mauser
Danish? Mannlicher/ Krag
Norwegian? Krag
Russian? MN 91/30
Almost all rifles are pre / or early war. Only that 1943 dated G98/40 does not fit into my thoughts.
Thanks
Wolfgang

Don't recall if I posted this here or not but the G98/40 I had was LK5 marked on the left butt near the buttplate. No signs of any rework I could detect.
