Portuguese ammunition

S/42

Thunda from down unda
There has been some good discussion here lately on Portuguese M937A and M937B rifles, so I thought I would share some pictures of ammunition made for Portugal and made in Portugal for these rifles, as well as for their MG's.

First off, here is an original 1937 RWS contract of SMK, with the box designating for machine guns. Undoubtedly, the Portuguese used these in the M904/39's and M937A & B rifles also.

I don't see these too often - perhaps they are more common in the USA? I know some came in with the rifles here in Australia in the 1970's. GCA '68 was great for Australian collector's and shooter's alike

Next is 1972 dated 8mm ammunition specifically for the M937 rifles - note the Portuguese make no distinction between "A" and "B" models, nor is there any mention of "M941".

This ammunition is WONDERFULLY accurate, and non-corrosive. I have shot a LOT of this before, and can attest to it's quality.

NOTE: these were originally LOOSE PACKED - I put them on strippers for convenience.

Box is complete, 90 pieces.

Port 7,9

Quite a bit of this ammo came into the USA. First the ammo only, because of GCA68, and then later when Hanson brought in the Port. Mausers after the 86' law change. The Smk & Smk'l was packed in 100 round boxes as you show. I bought quite a bit from C&C in Texas. The most interesting thing about the Smk'l was that both the Green/Red (Picture) & RED only tracer were in that lot. The Germans used the G/R but collectors are only aware of the Port. contract getting all Red (Rot) tracer. I also got some of the Smk that was primed with the zdh. 30 primer (N/C). The Port. ammo is packed in 900 round or 800 round cases, the later on clips. Great stuff. JH

I also like this ammo alot. It shoot very well in the G43 too. The only problem I have run into are misfires once in awhile but thats due to weak firing pin springs in some of my K98s. Nothing wrong with the ammo.

Thanks Vulch. Pic stickied. I know that the Port FNM 78 and 81 surplus that I shoot in my M1A NM shoots MOA or less. It also apparently has a light jacket as it blasts a fist to softball sized exit hole on boar and hogs; they go down like being struck by lightening. Good stuff.
