8x57 Ammo Question

There are original German WWII 15 rd. boxes of 8mm ammo with box labels stamped, "fur MG", and other boxes marked, "fur gewehr". Most seem to have no such markings. Why were these markings present at all? Was there any functional reason not to shoot "fur MG" ammo in a K98?

Thanks!

"für MG" ammo was quality ammo with a small risk of malfunction. "für Gewehr" ammo was of not so good quality and should only be used in repeater rifles. The designations were only used late in the war. Early war ammo was all in top quality. "für MG" ammo could be used in a K98 - but was perhaps waste of good ammo.

See above some examples of empty boxes. Some are very rare: B-patronen (explosive ammo), Anschuß, Gewehr, MG (zeroing ammo), Leichtes Spitzgeschoß (light ammo), tracer ammo, Platzpatronen (blank ammo).
Für MG / Für Gewehr is perhaps not a late war phenomenon, but at least a war phenomenon - from 1940 - 45.
