J.P. Sauer K98k Serials and Data, 1934-1944

ce43 & ce44

ce43 h block with barrel code D62371. It's one of those eastern Europe returns that are bolt mm and rode hard and put away wet.

ce44 r block with barrel code cedg. Nice matching rifle, textbook correct from what I can see. If anyone wants pics Iof anything let me know.

S/147 1938

sn 1267a, O. 12409 marked on takedown disc, barrel code Sutterlin S 37 over 525D, e/214 x 3.

Hello,

do you are sure the stock is matching to the rifle? Please show some more photos of your Sauer, in particular the stock and barrel bands, to get some opinions about it. I would say the stock is sanded and the H (Heer) stamp isn't original.

Greetings,
Stephan

147 1939 rc

Not much to look at, but this is my 147 1939 Russian Capture serial number 7202t

The only three parts that match are the receiver, barrel, and trigger guard.

IMG_4480.JPG

I have a 1940 "147" Serial is 1732 a

Barrel, receiver, and bolt all match (save for the cocking piece on the bolt) The barrel is a replacement barrel marked "0,2" with the serial having the correct "a" suffix. Stock is a BYF numbered 3218. The stock, both barrel bands, floor plate and trigger-guard match each other. The barrel bands have been re-stamped with the 1732 serial but the 3218 is still partly visible.

No import marks whatsoever. The bluing is worn to maybe 20-30% on all part except for the follower.

Bear there is a whole section here dedicated to these sniper rifles. The guys there are the foremost expert with these special rifles. But remember with the sniper rifles there are nine times as many fakes out there than rare ones.

here is my attic find to contribute 147 1940 serial 4527 l

Norwegian "Capture" 1943 JP Sauer M98k/F1

Greetings from Norway.

I have bought this rifle, and looked over it. It has been in the Norwegian Army after WWII, so it has been rebarreled/chambered at Kongsberg Våpenfabrikk. It still retains a lot of the original markings.
As I disassemble it further I will look into further markings, but so far it seems like a Sauer Mauser, with a serial number of potentially 5092 or 5992.

1937 s/147

Dug out of a pile of canoe paddles (low end sporters and beat up milsurps);
S/147 1937 sn# 2773, letter suffix is either an "h" or "k".
All visible numbers match, but am suspicious of the handguard and haven't had it off yet, bore looks nice. Number on cleaning rod is distorted.
No import marks.
The story that came with it (I know, I know, buy the weapon, not the story) an American officer brought it back from North Afrika, and it sat in a closet till he passed.

Here is 147, 1940 -1444v.
I just cleaned it up and now it's debute... Well used, but not abused. All matching -- except maybe the cleaning rod.. I can't find a number on it. Lots more photos if you wantum'.

WOW....

That's very close in number to a Norwegian capture K98F1 I've just been offered!!

It was originally a 147, 1940 with serial number 1267v......so only 177 apart in number :jaw:

It's all still matching #'s other than the obvious barrel change to 30-06, with mismatched rear sight ladder and both barrel bands, which is quite common on 30-06 Norwegian conversions from what I've seen due to the barrel change. (its missing its cleaning rod though)

The "u" and "v" blocks of 147 1940 you find quite often as Norwegian capture, M98k and M98k F1. The rifle with the serial number "1267v" was certainly marked with HÆR, do you have the Norwegian serial number for me?

Yes, it's HAER-77756

I have been offered a choice of two, the other being a 147, 1939 originally 7774m renumbered as HAER-89704. This has more mixed parts including bolt, and interestingly has what appears to be the dovetailed German armourer field repair to the bottom of the stock, so likely saw some extensive use prior ending up in Norway, and which given the Norwegians cherry picked the best rifles for their use seems strange they chose one with such a repair?

When the rifle was in 1945 beside the stock repair in good condition, the Norwegians could chose it.

Personally, I would take the 147 1940. Like you said, the offered 147 1939 has more mixed parts and the floorplate manufactured by Astrawerke is in addition force matched.
