This is also a new addition to my Soldbuch collection and I think it is a rather interesting example for those that collect P38 pistols.
Günther Kröckel (°1914) was a salesman from Siegenhe is drafted in to service in December ’39; he gets his basic training as aradio operator with the Nachrichten Ersatz Kompanie of Schützen Ersatz Regiment 81.
After finishing his basic training in April ‘40 he is assigned to radio platoon of the staff company of Schützen Rgt 12 (the armored infantry regiment) of the 4th Panzer Division; just in time to participate in the Westfeldzug of May/June1940.
After theWestfeldzug he is transferred to the 11th company (artillery) of the 12th Schtz Rgt, a more dangerous place to be for a wireless operator, in the first weeks of operation Barbarossa, (the invasion of Soviet Russia) he gets wounded by bullet, for this wound he will receive the wounded badge in black and a Panzerkampfabzeichen in bronze.
His service is exemplary and in April ’43 he gets a KVKII.
On August 10 1943 he is hit by a bullet again, this time in the neck, a more serious wound then the previous one, he gets a wounded badge in silver and after he recovered in hospital he is sent to several armored infantry units that are based in France.
He will end the war with Pz Gren Rgt 2113 of the 15th Pz Gren Division fighting on the Western front.
What makes this Soldbuch special is that the clerk has written down all the details of his pistols that he owned.
In April1943 he buys a FN pistol with serial number 88365.
And in July1943 the army issues him a P38 ac43 with serial number: 9394c.
It is often that one comes across all these details in a Soldbuch.
