I took these pic's a while ago.. Rainy day and bored so I figured I'd reconfigure them and post them up. One is a 269,000 range the other a 270,000 range. You can clearly see the deterioration of quality of the letting of the stock. Also notice the way the hole is punched in the bayonett lug and the raw metal was not trimmed off and the stock was drilled to clear the metal hanging off.. Also the way the takedown discs were installed is a little crude. All around a late war rifle.. I would say the later rifle was hand letted for the triggerguard and the trigger hole hand cut. The early stock clearly shows routing. Both stocks have a 3 didgit # written in pencil that is not a partial serial #. Must be a workshop or preassembly number and are not always on early gustloff stocks.. Both stocks clearly show factory staining while the rifle was assembled as the stain leaked down along the barrel. Also the the # 1 or lower case l that appears on only the last couple thousand rifles stamped just below the wrist of the stock is present and it's meaning is unknown..
