Haenel MP41

Can someone tell me why there is a "second serial number" on bottom of the barrel? Would that probably be of a reused barrel which was just serialized to the new action?

The disassembly (/bolt removal) is so incredibly easy on the MP41, I'd call it the easiest automatic gun to remove the bolt. The spring tension is very small when the bolt is closed, hence the removal can be done with only one hand what was a huge surprise to me!

Aside of this the MP41 is of a very simple design with just a fire selector next to the trigger, and the safety being on the bolt handle (note the red colour on the last picture showing that it's now in firing mode!) and the third possibility to do something (aside of the trigger, of course) being the magazine removal button. And the wooden stock feels much better in hands and on the cheek than the MP40 folding stock.

I have overpainted the first digits of the serial number, and since there are 11 pictures I will have to seperate it into two posts.

You forgot to mention that it is very easy to hold on target, even on full automatic. It is very close to shooting the Mp34 (Oe) or Steyr 1000 sub gun which is one of the smoothest shooters I have even fired. Harry

Very nice example! It is hard to find one in this nice condition. I've never had the opportunity to fire one but it is my intent to someday add one to my collection to accompany my MP40. Thanks for sharing.

I just looked at my MP41 and it to has a second number under the barrel. So I guess this is correct. And our 2 numbers are only 4 apart! with a B suffix

Outstanding MP.41s :happy0180: I'd love to find one nice like these. I believe those barrel numbers are either lot numbers or they could be serials for the barrels themselves to identify them as sub assemblies. Pic stickied for reference.

ajs, is your MP41 reblued? The colour seems to be different on mine, but it also might be due to the very heavy oil cover on your MP41.

I pulled the two MP41's out of the safe and checked them for that second number on the underside of the barrel. Sure enough they both had a number. One is 2180B and the other is 2480B; I used the magnifying glass to make sure the 1 was not a four. I am not sure what those numbers mean; I have had one of the guns for at least 20 years and the other for about five and never paid any attention to those numbers. They were not listed on the inventory list I keep for my guns either so I just added them. The one with the 2180B number is also marked with a large German Police Eagle behind the serial number on the barrel. Harry

Just noticed that your original post also has the number that is under the barrel as 2480B with the WaA 37 stamp in front of the number. I will take a photograph of my gun tomorrow or latter today and post. The serial number for my gun is XX943. Perhaps that number with the B behind it is a lot number? Harry

Current thread

Guys these 2nd numbers could be barrel codes similar to the ones found on K98ks.

Mp41

Mine is 2475B under the barrel and 5411 serial next to eagle 37 on the left side of the barrel.

Not sure how I missed this the first time by? Anywho redirect from Absolut post 'MP time'. WRT the two numbers on the barrel, is this a Haenel thing? I have a '41 MP40 and it has 8.84 on top, left side is e/37, the s/n 3544c followed by the firing proof. Bottom has e/37 followed by 2299B. The s/n suffix is lower case while the (barrel code?) suffix is an upper case B. It looks like the reported numbers are in the 2xxx range and are also listed as capital B. Any thoughts?
