As found early 'a' block with very cool SN - 262a. Non-slotted front sight and flat buttplate.
Three areas of wood filler from factory - the one area is visible in the stock side proof image.

Another sweetie Bruce...

The whole idea of filler is interesting to me. I have a 44 L block with *c that has, IMO, orig filler near some tear out near the inlet for the bolt.

The filler spot you show reminds me of tree pith. The very center of a tree is "pith" and has this same appearance. I wonder whether the laminate sections sometimes included the pith and that is what you/I see. I have a similiar stock with similiar long/ narrow section as you have shown.

Are the other sections of fill on this stock also long/ narrow?

Filler

Will take some closeups of the three areas and post them up.
Have seen a lighter color filler on Brunn rifles as well.

filler

Here are the pics of the 3 areas of filler. The material is definately harder than the base laminate wood as that score
mark gouged the layer of beech but only creased the filler area.

That's odd damage...it almost looks like a long "dent" from some impact from something.

I had a dou.44 once that had filler in conjunction with glue to fix a split laminate layer. Not sure if it was a military repair, but it sure was old.

Nice rifle, even though flat buttplates and unslotted front sights make me throw up in my mouth a little...as do "H" bands. Sometimes.

Don't have one

I have never found one like that....wish I did. Nice to see some early stuff like this posted. Love the machining on the receiver. Great pics...

I would bet if it had LT bases on it and an Early Reichswehr Zielvier that matched , You would not even come close to Throwing Up in Your Mouth it would be more like You were walking around with a Tent Pole in Your Jeans .Best Regards .
