Greetings Ladies and Gentlemen:
The pictures below are of bolts from EL. 24, magazine fed, .22 sub caliber conversion kits for the Mauser K98k bolt action rifle. (They also fit the Gew 98, K98a and K98b)
The top bolt is definitely an ERMA bolt from an all serial number matching ERMA logoed kit manufactured in 1938 bearing "77" & "280" Waffenamts. Sometimes both Waffenamts appear on the same component, eg. the floor plate.
The bottom bolt is believed to be a Haenel bolt. However, the bolt is not serial number matching to the rest of the components of the kit. The bolt components are serial number matching to each other, but not to the other components. The (what is believed to be) Haenel bolt carries all WaA51 Waffenamts as do all other components of the kit!
Unlike the ERMA's, (with the ERMA logo on the receiver), there is no Haenel logo on the Haenel receiver. The Haenel logo appears on both magazines.
If you possess an EL. 24 conversion kit, please view the four pictures below, and apprise me if you have a bolt identical to the bolt in the lower half of the pictures. I would like to positively identify the bolt as either a Haenel or ERMA.
I'll point out some of the dissimilarities between the bolts to help you in the identification process.
In picture a2: Notice the difference in the size and shape of the safety! The ERMA bolt is much bigger and more rectangular!
Notice the bolt stem! The ERMA surface is flat; the lower one is rounded!
Notice the bolt root! The ERMA is rectangular, (almost square); the lower one is shaped like a dog house!
Also notice that the pieces just to the left of the cocking pieces! that piece is just a little bit smaller on the ERMA than it is on the one in the lower picture!
In picture a3: The piece on the bolt, that fits into the bottom channel of the receiver, (I don't know the technical name of the piece), that appears just below the bolt stems in the picture, is much wider, (or longer), on the right side of the ERMA, than it is on the right side of the lower bolt in the picture!
In picture a4: The cocking knob on the ERMA, in the right side of the picture, has a flat surface on the end as opposed to a rounded surface on the end of the cocking piece on the bolt to the left!
There are minor differences in the placement of serial numbers and Waffenamts.
I did not disassemble the bolt to check for other dissimilarities.
If anyone has a bolt with features identical to, or near identical to the bolt in the lower portion of pictures 2 & 3, or the left portion in picture a4, and you can positively identify it as numbers matching to other components in the kit, please apprise me if it is a Haenel or ERMA!
Or, if anyone has a Haenel Logo marked receiver or bolt (for the EL. 24 sub caliber conversion kit), please send me pictures.
