98M Reichsmarine

Here is a 98M #8541h Reichsmarine that I found some time ago, it is all matching, it had been duffel cut in between the bands with the front band and bayonet lug put on the stub, I found a doner stock to fix it, E/6 on the wide sling band, rear sight and bolt, stock has a repair to the toe area, no markings on the outside of the stock, stock and handguard match, takedown disc marked with N1062 which was what finally caught my eye after walking past it for 2 or 3 local shows.

Yes that is different...what is the significance of the E/6 ? Naval? I also don't recognize the crown over C on the buttplate

No, E/6 is a proof mark for Simson. The Anchor/M on the barrel is a Naval proof mark when the rifle was test proofed after re-barreling .

So this was done @ a Naval depot not just an Army rifle passed off to the Navy.

Disc Is N#### this is a property/ Inventory number.

I agree, an awesome rifle!

These RM ordnance depot rifles are hard to find, far tougher than the NS period rifles, - the RH was strangled by the Reichstag during this period and the RM doubly so... (except for two ridiculous pocket battleships the government wouldn't give up on, - probably more due to politics and labor unions than any need for the two ships..)

That's a killer 98m...
