Another Carbine Project

I thought did well recently constructing a replacement fore end and Repro Nose cap on a Suhl that I got encouraged to attempt another one. This is a Steyr Totally matching including the stock which sadly has been cut back. Although this will never be as collectable because of the repair I get a great deal of enjoyment at least returning the Carbine to the way it looked. The bore looks great so this will be a fun one to shoot. I have already started to shape the new fore end as I cut a couple of blanks as spares from the last one.

Looks like you project is coming along well. Bringing this rifles back too their former glory is always a worth while endeavor. Seeing the finish project done is such a great feeling. I hate too say it but I have yet too shoot these big bore Mausers yet. Got a couple rounds now but I sold my last one of these fine rifles.

I may be in luck though on one will see!

Project Update

Marching along pretty well. Everything placed together for a fit check. Main work now is clean up nose cap casting, drill mounting hole and silver solder the threaded bushing on the barrel. Once all fits then comes the staining and final fitting.
I have been searching through trying to find the specific Unit this is marked to 20.D.5.130 but no luck so far. I assume Dragoons from the "D".

You are right. The regiment would be the "1. Badisches Leib-Dragoner-Regiment Nr. 20, 5. Eskadron, Waffe Nr. 130" or in english "1. Baden guard dragoon regiment no. 20, 5. squadron, weapon no. 130."
This regiment was founded in 1803 in the "Grand Duchy of Baden" and was added to the prussian army (as the 20th dragoon regiment) in 1871 when the baden army was incorporated into the prussian military. It was part of the XIV. Armee-Korps.

With kind regards

Vincent

Range Tested- Project complete

As a final follow up check I hit the range yesterday morning. With a good marksman (Which I am not) this would be very accurate. Buffalo Arms Ammunition Swiss Black Powder.
Took the opportunity to shoot the other 2 carbines as well.

Very nice work! Glad to see this restored to it's former life. You should be proud.

I love seeing you bringing these rifles back to life. The pictures of you firing them are equally as brilliant.

Cant wait to see the next!
