ar41 Luftwaffe, you decide!

To all,

Picked up this ar41 recently from a friend that has owned it for sometime. He thought it was one procured for the Luftwaffe.
I hope it is, but welcome comments pro or con. In the picture section of this forum is a d block rifle that is attributed to the Luftwaffe, so I have hope.

The right side of the stock has shrapnel damage and was sanded. This resulted in the three stock markings being somewhat obscured. The color of the stock is uniform throughout. Thanks.

Last pictures

A couple of pics of the pitted butt plate.

In the Blue Book of Gun Values, they list some manufactures as L code rifles. I assume they mean rifles accepted by the Luftwaffe. An ar41 is not listed because?

Also listed are manufactures as having produced E code rifles. What the heck is an E code rifle? Navy?

Thanks

It's a nice Luftwaffe rifle, congrats!

A few weeks ago I posted some photos of a ar41 and it has the serial number 5939c, our rifles are just 138 apart. My rifle is Kriegsmarine accepted.

Do you can take a close up photo of the cocking piece? My cocking piece has the inspection WaA613.

ar41 Kar98k possible Luftwaffe

That's a good looking rifle. Definitely looks like Luftwaffe to me.
Tks,

Requested pictures

8x57IS,

Here is the picture you requested and some others.

Could you post some pictures of the serial numbers in the barrel channel and under the hand guard. Thanks

The Blue Book of Gun Values is worthless as tits on a boar......

I would not say worthless, but on some collectables it is not worth much. It can be used as a weapon to show a value if it shows a value higher than your buyer thinks what you have is worth. It can be used to show a value to a possible vender, a value that is way less than they want, thus a possible bargaining opinion. Use it as an opinion that some will value when it helps you and keep it under the table if it hurts you. Some will adhere to it, right or wrong and some will ignore it.

It has some very good serial number ranges for many guns by year in the back. It has proof mark IDs.

On some guns, it list the types, maker and variations. It has many uses if you know how to use it. Worthless is way too strong and inaccurate IMO. It is a tool to use however one may choose.

The values listed come from collectors generally in the know. Any inaccuracies on K98s can be corrected by folks here submitting useful estimates to the publisher. That is how it works. That too is a double edge sword and the insiders may wish to keep these opinions to themselves but being only critical and not pro-active keeps the source inaccurate.

It has been widely updated in many specialties, and is so ongoing. On M1911s it has gotten much more accurate due to collector input. A few years back it was silly bad on them, on how to ID, numbers made, values etc..

I did it today, here is the serial number in the barrel channel and on the outside of the stock. It's Kriegsmarine accepted with the Eagle M.

Barrel code is 635 40 DÖ e/26 (3)

Why would the Luftwaffe have a gun like this? Were they expecting to see line of sight rifle combat?
