Good photo, I've seen that one and the series it's in before. Is it from the Kriegsberichter site?
It looks like they're in a training environment but for the sake of argument, those rifles might be their regularly assigned weapons. I kind of think that the role of captured rifles for training has been underestimated, especially during the period in which K98k production was trying to keep up with battlefield losses.

Hi Pat,
Yes it is a training environment. It is supposed ot be the 13th ss Gebirgs div. in the France in 43. There is a series of pics but this is the only one that definitely shows VZ24/G24(t)s.
