Laminated Paper Frog

In the recent posting regarding the rubberized fabric bayonet frog, Fred mentioned that it resembled a similar paper variation. Here is an example of a frog for the WWII SG84/98 constructed of pressed paper. Fabricated from laminating stacked thick sheets of pulpy paper stock. The frog is produced in the manner of the standard leather example with four rivets and three lines of cotton stitching. The magnetic rivets are an unusual small rounded variety. There is a stippled or indented texture to the exterior surfaces completed with a black dyed finish. There is heavy wear and clear signs of use perhaps indicating that this material did not hold up well. The frog is unmarked.

Tough frog to find I have only seen one other and it wasn't in the condition as yours Nice item! timothy

Its a nice piece, i would believe its more for dress bayonet as for combat S84/98. b.r.Andy

Very tough frog to find. The first one I owned was acquired in the mid-1980s at the Disneyland Convention Center Collector Show (yes...there were even a few shows at the Disneyland Hotel as well in those days...). It came with a average condition cvl 43 bayonet mounted. After much care I was able to remove the scabbard and off the bayonet. I upgraded to a nicer example about five years back when I helped a good friend redistribute his lifetime collection and swapping out my frog for his. It is posted it here: http://www.k98kforum.com/showthread.php?24681-The-S84-98-T3-Frog-Ersatz-Variants
