A little Steyr T block weirdness

I haven't posted any pix in a while. Here is something a little different. It is a T block Steyr with an e/623 on top of the bolt flat. It was also e/623 marked on the bottom flat and I didn't notice anything unusual about the bolt otherwise. In fact, it isn't particularly crude as one might expect in such a late rifle.

A Pisgah post...yeaaaaa... more pics. Never saw that proof there before...cool.

uhh??

It must of needed re-inspection for whatever reason.. They really slamed it in there as well.. very cool:thumbsup:

Yes, very interesting and a new one on me. Mods should consider creating a sticky library of anomalous inspections like this... cool stuff

That's cool stuff Pisgah. Note the punch mark on the underside of the bolt as well. Obviously a reinspect / defect correction. Pic stickied.

BiO, we could start a thread on repairs and defects.

Here's a bit more late(r) Steyr weirdness. This one is a single rune bnz. 4. It has a completely unnumbered bolt. The catch is that the bolt is unmistakably late Steyr and also has an e/623 on the bottom flat. The only numbered part on the bolt is the safety. There is what appears to either be a partially struck rune, or more likely a "1" on the bolt flat and I'm guessing this is some sort of inspection marking signifying that the bolt was okayed at the factory. I'm betting that the rifle failed inspection due to some bolt related issue and that an unnumbered spare was slipped in to get it out the door. It appears to have not been firing proofed. The back end (bolt sleeve/firing pin/etc.) of the bolt is as would be expected on a single rune rifle (i.e. unnumbered with the exception of the safety). If you're skeptical about an unnumbered bolt, ask yourself when was the last time you saw a late Steyr unnumbered bolt (loose in the wild).

Another. This one a late T block (5240 T). It has markings below the digits on the flat to the left of the "T" marking but I cannot make out what the markings are as they are a partial strike. This bolt typical in in its crudeness for being so late. Also, this rifle was never proof fired, so missing these markings.

pisgah, the rifle was fired proofed, wasn't steyr taking a chance with a bolt that was not fired proofed? maybe they just forgot. i had a high polish ac 41 p38 without the acceptance on the frame so i guess any thing is possible.

One more. Another T block. In case you thought the single rune with an unnumbered bolt was an anomaly. This one also has an unnumbered bolt with e/623 inspection on the bottom flat. The bolt is crude and unmistakably late Steyr. The bolt sleeve is numbered/matching as would be expected. The rifle was not firing proofed.

Pisgah,
Can you post detailed photos of the stock, TG and bands on this super cool single rune?
:hail:

Very cool. I love bnz 45’s and already have too many but still need one of those late T’s with no acceptance/proof!
