Hi new member from NY.
I recently acquired a BCD 45 Kar 98
This is my first Mauser and I will have a lot of questions about this rifle.
I look forward to all the help and knowledge there is on these boards.

Hello also from the over-taxed, over-regulated, progressive socialist hell called New York. A lot of great members with vast knowledge here. Look forward to seeing photos of your bcd!

After 3 post you should have better luck posting pics. What serial range is it?

Sorry Im trying to get used to posting pics.
Says 2279 as serial number.
Bolt has 2279 stamped on it
Safety 79 stamped on it
Has Eagle stamp

The serial is actually 12279. What questions do you have?

That makes sense as for the 1 before the 2279.
Is this a rare gun?
I know the firing pin is not original supposedly it was a bring back and pin was cut before it came back to the states.

Hello From NY

I would consider bcd45 rifles "scarce", not rare. There are quite a few reported, condition as always increases value (untouched being more valuable, especially stocks).

It's tough to tell if your stock is original finish, appears it may be sanded or refinished, these stocks usually have a lot of pantograph marks that make them look rough (you may be able to see these better in hand).

They are valuable, most bcd45 rifles sell at the top of 98k prices, 2500+ with better condition going higher. This one is cool as it has a blued bolt, most are full phosphate.

Thank you so much for the info.
Look forward to learn more about this rifle.

Check the picture reference thread, there are a few more bcd45's there.

It looks pretty nice and I also like the blue bolt. Great contrast to all the phosphate. Definitely looks like shellac? added. It'd be interested to see if any of the chatter survived.
