Amberg 1883 JG Mod 71, Just a Tease for Now....and Unit Mark Question

Amberg, thanks much for the pictures, they are pretty neat...

I have the rifle together, and hopefully will get a chance to get some good overall shots over the long weekend...

I was reminded in another thread that my long weekend turned into a reeaaallllllllyyyyy long weekend, and I was remiss in posting some shots of this gun together, so I pulled it out, and here are some...

Just really cool rifle, definitely a throwback to a long gone era, very heavy, very long, feels incredibly solid. You could fix bayonets, and know it is a handy pike in the true sense of the word. I really dig this gun!

Thanks for taking the time and I can see why Jordan was fawning over it. I hadn't appreciated some of these before and am realizing this now. Too bad about the photos disappearing and I really agree with the pike pole analogy.

Hi, Not sure if you are still on this forum. I have one of those but, German Mouser? J.G. M/71 that I need a stock for. My grandfather had it and cut the butt off to make is stand level so he could make a floor lamp out of it.
I would like to put it back to its original condition.

Honestly you could repair that. Get some donor wood - be it from an already-wrecked stock or just a chunk of wood - and find a replacement butt plate.

Agree with Cyrano. There is at least one buttplate on Gun Broker right now, buy it and see how much wood you'll need, i bet a chunk would work and you could sand it so shape. Then use some Ballistol and bronze wool on the metal. Looks like a decent one, you should take more photos and start a new thread for it.

Nice Jaeger rifle, it would be nice to complete it with a large sawbacked bayonet PFM1871 of bavarian type, which is too scarce beast.
