Need help identifying barrel letters

Hey guys, asking for someone else. Can anyone tell me what this GU identifier is on the barrel of this K98? I assume it's a subcontractor code, but the owner and I can seem to locate any info online about it.... it doesn't wrap anymore around the barrel under the stock. It's just GU. Thanks!

Actually, the dot in a shield indicates who made the barrel.... and the GU is a "lot number" for quality control purposes.
