Yes this is the 2nd documented one I know of.
The other verified example is in the 'f' block. No stock completion date behind the buttplate.
My best guess is that Mauser Berlin was using up either left over inventory or rejected stock blanks that were finished.
In either case, an interesting rifle and truly one of the last production rifles fitted with the old style flat butt stock.

This is a recent addition to my Mauser Berlin wartime group.

Cool, I’ve never seen a jwh rear sight ramp like that!

Good one B. Funny they are the only firm to go so late. Even the mid 42 guns with flat Bp seem out of place. Great condition too.

Actually pretty incredible whats still left too be discovered.

So far 3 rifles have shown up that would have made it into Volume II:

1. byf43 'l' block receiver finished in the 'i' block of 1944 Oberndorf production
2. Blank receiver early 1944 Oberndorf 'a' block
3. Flat buttplate ar43 (Mauser Berlin)

Yeah, there is tons of neat stuff to discover yet, that’s why we keep looking. Maybe one day we can do an addendum book with all the neat, new stuff- a picture book of the freak show known as the K98k.

Dont let your wife see the post about another project........hahhaa

A rare byf 43 for sure. Oops, senior moment. Was looking at a byf 42 when I responded.

Nice acquisition. I need to expand my gun show and gun shop 'snooping' area. Might find more that is available. A friend of mine not long ago picked up a all matching byf 41 in the 9xxx range with the exception of the bolt, but had all of the Nazi firing proofs and inspection stamps ground off. Seller told him had had been an Israeli piece. Ruined the value big time.

Nice rifle Bruce. Reminds me of when older collectors say "the Germans were using what ever they had to get rifles out the door. They didn't care about us collectors." That describes this rifle, not the crap they are usually selling.

It's a beautiful rifle and interesting for many reasons, congrats Bruce!

@heavy_mech
I would rather say it's a barrel assembly mark, not a 0,2

ar43 flat butt

Typical of all Mauser Berlin stocks made after early 1942, no external or internal military inspection stamps.
There are two small process stamps, one in the barrel channel and one external.

I was hoping for a stock completion date code behind the butt but no luck.
Many of the later 1943 stocks have no completion date code.

Yeah this MB feature certainly gives one pause and a little head scratch if you aren’t super familiar with them, stumped me recently on my ar43, which I’ll be posting soon.
