Alright so this may have been discussed before, but what is the 'proper' name of the commonly called 'K98'?

Here are common variations everyone uses:
K98
98K
K98k
Kar98
Kar98k
Karabiner 98
Karabiner 98k

From my understanding the second K in 'k98k', etc stood for Karabiner 98 kriegsmodel (Carbine mauser model of 1898 - war model) meaning the late-war shortcut versions.

What did the germans or rather 'mauser' call the K98 during the war? Wondering what the correct by-manufacture designation was.

For example in the army we call our utility helicopter the 'blackhawk' but it's actual designation is UH-60(A/L/M depending on model)

So this may be very trivial but - what's the correct term?

Karabiner 98 kurz is full proper name for this rifle IMHO. K98k, Kar98k also work.
