Panzer Granate fur 7,5cm PaK 40, Now with other Ordnance!

So here is another grail round I picked up with the short StuG round....

This is the standard AP round for the 75mm PaK 40 gun...the Panzer Granate 39...this (as with almost all German AP rounds) had a small HE bursting charge, with a base fuze and tracer.

The case is not in great shape, but displays ok...unfortunately the headstamp is not very readable, you can see the manufacturer, and just make out the case number designator. You can see the C/12 St. primer is percussion, not electric like on vehicle guns.

The projectile likewise is somewhat pitted, but beggars can't be choosers, and this one was in better shape than the others available. I did use some body filler on the main section to fill in the major pitting, but didn't really bother with the cap and ballistic windshield. Then repainted it...again it displays good. I could have gotten a better example, but it was $300-$400 more, and between this, the StuG round, and the container, I overspent as is! I can always pick it up down the road...

The container is your typical German overkill (don't get me wrong, I love their overkill, but it seems like a lot of work for a single round..) steel water tight container. You can see the marking on the end designating it for the PaK 40 round, and on the side...this one actually was marked for an HE round (SpGr) but they are identical, the AP round just uses a metal spacer to compensate for the difference in length (which I got one with the container). Also note the paper label inside the lid giving lot and load info...

All in all, I am thrilled to finally get a PaK 40 round in the collection...

I thought I would just tag these to this post, picked up some new stuff for the ordnance collection...

First up, a pair of Russian 45mm rounds, one tank round (uses electric primer) with the High Capacity HE...it was used by the Finns against its former owner as can be seen by the Finnish ink stampings on the case. It is high capacity in that the projectile continues deep into the case...I'll have to pull it out and get a shot...

The second is a 45mm AT gun round, which used percussion primers. This has the standard APHE round....like almost all German AP rounds, and some US, it actually has an HE payload with a base fuze to allow it to explode once it (maybe) pierced the target. The Russian 45mm AT gun was basically a direct copy of the German PaK 36 37mm AT gun, just enlarged to fire the larger 45mm round.

These are some very scarce rounds in my experience, I have never even seen them for sale before...the occasional case, but not complete rounds....

The second is a German 8cm mortar round...had a 5cm round, didn't have an 8cm....I may eventually buy 3 to fill my 8cm mortar round container....

Third is a special long range 10,5cm HE projectile that was ONLY fired by the leichte Feld Haubitze 18M (l.F.H. 18M) which was a l.F.H. 18 with a muzzle break. It is longer than the normal 10,5cm HE projectile, and is stenciled with a large "F" (for Fern, IIRC). It was designated as the "10,5cm F.H. Granate F" by the Germans. It used a standard 10,5cm cartridge case, but with a special charge in it. They were transported in individual crates containing one projectile, and one case...I actually had the crate and case, and finding this was awesome, so now I can fill the crate....

Thanks guys, glad you like seeing them....don't know what happened to my pic of the 10,5cm projectile, so I'll try again....

Although, weird, I see it did show up on the computer, but when I looked on my phone, I swear it wasn't there....

No kidding! I need a well heeled benefactor.

Is the US manual fairly comprehensive?

Very, covers everything, maintenance, ancillary equipment like the set up to charge the equilibrators and recoil system with high pressure air...

If I had the gun, I could set it up, maintain it and fire it...

Its a neat manual, a lot of pages...but I think I have the pdf, if interested I can try and send it to you....

I am just going to keep posting mainly German ordnance here....

Here are three rounds for the 5cm PaK 38 AT gun...one AP shot, one AP Capped, and an HE. I am missing the Hart Kern tungsten hard core round....

As with almost all German AP, these are actually APHE with an HE filling and base fuze. Just something to keep in mind if you come across an AP round that is still crimped in the case...nothing to be afraid of, just be aware of.

I also have the four round steel transport container for these....

Those shells pack a punch.
I sure wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of one of those in for example a Sherman.
