So what's going to happen to it?

dont know yet. Depends on the ATF involvement I suppose. Capt in charge of the case is a collector but not these types. we have other local folks around who, if allowed, would love to put it in a better home.

It will be confiscated by the ATF and destroyed I bet.

Well, I believe if not ordered destroyed, it could go on Dept paper (I know Buffalo PD has a large "museum" with all sorts of cool stuff that was confiscated and saved...they use it for "officer familiarization"), at least I would try and ask to parts kit it, turn in the destroyed receiver and keep everything else....

Of course I have been long a proponent of keeping the quality stuff from turn ins/confiscations, and auctioning them to the public, following all laws, Departments could make a lot of money for their coffers without municipalities having to resort to the usual tax increases....

Here was the owner... that's the gun... social media post. I don't feel too bad.

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph!
Reminds me of a job I did several years ago down in the hood where I overheard the customers thug grandson talking about a firearm he had recently' acquired'. He told his grandfather it was 'one like the Germans used in WWII'. I should have asked.....

Museum or destroyed... cannot add a gun to the registry.

If it’s destroyed it will be melted as a whole.

It’s for the children...

Can't be added to the registry, correct, but can be kept by the Department if so desired, and put on their paper...their guns do not have to be on the registry...

ETA Also there is a very slim chance its on the registry if it was stolen....OP said unregistered, don't know if he meant perp did not have papers, or if they checked with ATF to see if it was on the registry...

Wait a minute, "trunk"? "bolt mismatch"? All I need to hear now is "cosmolene" and I will fly off my couch and make the owner an outrageous offer for his "vet bringback".
Oh, the cops already confiscated it? Well, never mind.

What a shame a fine specimen in the hands of this buffoon who has no respect for a piece of history. It is one of my dreams to own one of these or atleast shoot one. Hopefully it makes its way to a decent home and isn't destroyed.

I second this solution:thumbsup:

The guy (picture above) who owned it was in or near his car when a drug deal over some "weed" went bad and he was shot with a pistol and now a quadriplegic. When police were investigating, this weapon was found in his trunk of his car. I was allowed to examine and touch it at the station.

Me too! However this makes WAY too much sense and you know how far that goes in gubbiment.

Oh my God. I sure hope this doesn't wind up being melted down and turned into a sewer grate.
