Cracked, destroyed handguard and idiot marks on the bands. All matching tho. AllI did was add the handguard (last two pics).

Had this rifle out today and the rear band was numbered. Not exactly a momentous discovery. Just another place to look I guess.

Looks good.
I too have rescued a VZ24. Found it by accident on Craigslist. It was missing a front barrel band and a receiver screw.
Front hand guard was cracked. Found replacement parts and added a repo sling.
Just found a bayonet & scabbard for it.
It has a (Jeem) Iraqi Army property mark on the receiver and Farsi letters on the I.D. disk.

German reworked Czech rifles are among my favorite Mauser variants. The reworks I've got so far are 3 Vz-24's, 2 Vz-23's, a Polish Wz.29 and Polish K98.
Keeping in the Czech line, I've also got a dou42 RC K98k, dou42 G24(t), dou45 Mod.98 K98k RC and a postwar Czech built swp45 K98k.
