BSW marking

Interesting rifle ? And is it the same one that was on gunbroker months back ? Cant imagine its the same one and haven't had a chance to look yet.
Bolt is a hybrid for sure. KKW features . Receiver has the same look as a KKW receiver. Looks like it could have a k98k type band spring ? Is this so ?

Anyway, A short lived rifle for sure. It shows no real distinct markings or serial # to call it a prototype ? Standard range and proofed accordingly.

Based off the way Mauser serialed and proofed their prototypes or in house guns is all we can really go by.

That's what I suspected. As I mentioned, their trainer production was in hiatus at this time, and they were tinkering with new designs. This would NOT have been a production model, but very likely a "one-of-a kind" proposal or prototype. The serial number places it precisely at that point in time. The bolt design shows their "borrowing" ideas from Walther's successful model, which they envied. You seem to have a rare "missing link" here in what developed later into the collaborative KKW. Would be most interested in knowing precise diameter of bolt body and (especially) receiver. Would like to compare with measurements of their slightly later Meisterschaftsmodell, and with the later KKW.

The engineers at BSW did not use an indicator such a "V" for "Versuch" (as did Mauser) for prototypes.

Got a few dimensions that you guys asked for - maybe this will narrow things down some !
The bolt appears to be right at .700

Receiver diameter is approximately 1.125 and the barrel is approx. .900 where it meets the receiver :
Hope this helps

What purpose does the rack on the left side of the bolt shroud seem to have?

It almost looks like a safety interlock?
