Not to make you feel bad but I would have left the stock alone if that is the same stock and just cleaned the rust and dried grease off the metal. Sanding or cleaning that alters the finish on any milsurp is never good.
With that said if you like the way it turned out then by all means enjoy it. I had a K98 long ago where the stock and metal looked similar. It was from a large batch of K98s that I believe came out of the Balkans. They were all import marked and very rough. Mine had a bore that was completely shot out from the muzzle down about 7 inches. There was no rifling from the crown 7 inches down.
