AX 1940 shrapnel damaged

One of the few I bought a shop, probably overpaid but I sure did like it. The shrapnel is still buried in the stock, just the damage alone to think what that could have done. The impact on the stock was quite great. It is all matching right down to the screws.

Thats really cool, and interesting, especially with the shrapnel still in the stock. Plus its an ax, not easy to find to boot. It would be a keeper to me.

I have an enfield with shrapnel damage and a chunk of shrapnel still embedded...I like it plenty too...

Sharp avitar..I mean rifle. The battle damaged ones are as cool if not cooler than a pristine one to me.

Thanks guys, I really like the combat rifles, all the bruises dings gouges but this one is just my favorite, almost as bad as being hit in the eye by my avatar !

George, that's very cool. I had a shrapnel damaged Port contract rifle diverted to German use. Still had the small shards of shrapnel in the stock. This one is much more interesting as it has a good sized piece. I wouldn't doubt if that was taken off a dead soldier. Pic stickied.

Great find George. You very rarely see one those. You're a lucky guy to have it in your collection.

Thanks HB, I think it is just unique, pretty grim but still cool. Thanks for all the thumbs up.

ax 1940 w/ shrapnel damage

Great rifle to have in your collection! I've seen damaged stocks before
but never with the shrapnel still embedded within. Thanks for posting a
very unusual and interesting rifle.
Bob

AX 1940 additional pics of small parts

I was taking pics for g-boards on this rifle, Simson posted that it was on here but w/out the small parts. If one of the mods would relocate these to that sticky it would be great. Regards GR

I really like your AX40 that damage give it charactor. My brother in law had a WW1 Mauser that his uncle had given him that had a bullet take out a chunk entering from the buttplate edge on the right side and going in about 2 in. before exiting. I tried so hard to get the gun from him for my display to no avail and then few months later it was stolen from his house in NJ. I would never have sold the gun but it didn't matter even though he didn't care about the Mauser. I sure would know that gun if I saw it again.

Worth a bump. Probably one of the coolest K98ks I've seen. I had a well used vet bringback Portugese contract that had small shards of shrapnel embedded in the stock, but nothing as dramatic as this. Very cool.

Congratulations George, that is an intresting rifle you have there.
I like battle damaged equipment a lot.
Thanks for posting it.

Cheers,
Peter

PS: nice landscape where you took the picture.
