    Thanks guys. The dou. 43 was the second matching K98k I ever owned. Sold it to my brother in law in the late 80s for $400 (my cost) and traded him another K98k to get it back several years ago. He was in the military so it stayed in storage alot. What was funny was when I got it back it still had the white china pencil in the markings I put in there back when I was a kid and people did such things.

    Yep, if it had not been in the Book I would have left the white in there for nostalgia.

    Sorry if the answer is obvious, but why are the stocks so different in colors?

    BSW, the dou.43 was factory stained, the dou.44 was not. One begins to see unstained stocks much more frequently in 1944 production.
