Just picked up this 98% Mauser dsm-34. According to Jon Speeds book it was made late 1938.
Its all matched with numbered stock and fore grip.
Does anyone recognize the stock brand SF?
Thank you in advance.

I have had a quick look at my copy of Simpson's book, which focuses on DSM and KKW markings, but was unable to find yours.

Magnificent rifle, by the way!

Being branded this way, it is most likely a property mark of the original owner. Since it is not a political or government organization, I would suspect it may be for a private firm. A good number of businesses purchased training rifles for company shooting teams which they sponsored. You might check for this being a trademark. Two prime resources for doing that would be Darrin Weaver's book on trademarks, and Depatis.net website if you can manage the German instructions for navigating the site.

I don't think this is "SF". The "F" can be read, but what most here would read as a "S" I think should turn the circle into a ball (soccer ball or tennis ball?) which is marked with a "F". Remember that soccer/football in German means "Fußball", so could this be a lead? Possibly a sport organisation.

Not a lazy S . Here's a guy that thinks out of the box for sure.An interesting perspective . Soccer balls certainly looked different then today. And a quick google shows that tennis was being played in Germany in 1938. ???
Thank you

With a close inspection, you can see that the lazy S and the F do not connect to the other circle.
